Imperial, just north of El Centro, has agricultural ground and is irrigated by water from canals which comes from the Colorado River. This region has a typical desert climate with very hot, lengthy summers and mild comparatively short winters. Humidity in this region increases in monsoon before fall, when average rainfall of 3 inches happens every year. Sometime this city experiences storms and hurricane which pull down the temperature and can sometimes cause snowfall in the surrounding mountains.
Imperial’s history goes back to 1901 when it was established by a company named Imperial Land and this city was named after the company by its owner, George Chaffey. It hosts the Imperial County Airport and Midwinter Fair.
